Without the original disks it might become necessary to purchase and install a whole new operating system, and other software (which is time consuming and costly). Bring Your Original Software CD/Disks if you have them! If your computer fails or you have to add features, you might need the original installation disks.
Microsoft Security Essentials, AVG, Norton Antivirus, and McAfee are examples of free or commercial antivirus products that can be downloaded or purchased online. It is the responsibility of the student to source and install a functional antivirus program. Please also ensure that your antivirus software is current. If you are bringing a PC with Windows, please apply all Windows Critical Updates before leaving home through “Windows Update”. You are responsible for all network traffic through your Ethernet connection. You are automatically enrolled for this service.
ResNet service is provided for eight months at a cost of $160.00 and is payable through your student account. Please note that Smith House and Brant House both have WiFi throughout the building, and wired connections are also available in every room. As an option, you may install your own wireless router on your ResNet Ethernet connection, provided that it is properly secured and password protected, and that it does not interfere with other student’s or the campus systems.Please note that many newer compact computers, such as MacBook require a dongle or adapter to connect with Ethernet.Queen’s Residences provides Internet and e-mail access in your residence room – ResNet – and all you’ll need is a personal computer with a network adapter for Ethernet.
